    Valentine’s Day boosts lingerie shipping

    operations
8 February 2012 – Lingerie remains a popular Valentine's Day gift in France. The past days have seen a 30 percent increase in lingerie shipments handled by TNT Express' French unit, as specialised boutiques replenish their stocks daily until 14th February. The company is delivering tens of thousands of lingerie packages to some 3,000 shops nationwide. The surge is expected to continue for some days after the celebration, driven by inventory restocking as well as returns and exchanges.
The French spend more on their underwear than their European counterparts, according to  IFM - Institut Français de la Mode data. A French woman spends, on average, close to € 100 a year on bras, panties, stockings and other intimate apparel, compared with € 79 in Europe.

TNT Express achieves 6% fuel savings with aerodynamic trailer tail

    fleet

20 January 2012 – Using an aerodynamic trailer tail can cut truck fuel consumption by 6 percent. This is the result of a five month test performed by TNT Express in the Netherlands. TNT tested a trailer equipped with “EcoTail”, a foldable and retractable rear wing produced by the Dutch company Ephicas. TNT drove the vehicle every day between the towns of Ede and Duiven, which are separated by a distance of 26 km. The tests showed 1.65 liter of fuel saved per 100 km travelled at a maximum vehicle speed of 50 mph. Partner company Ephicas sought permission from the 'Dienst Wegverkeer' (RDW, the Dutch road traffic authority) to be able to run the TNT Express test program, since there is no length exemption for aerodynamic devices in the Netherlands.  After safety tests, the RDW allowed a temporary exemption.

TNT brings Canadian lobster to European tables

    operations
23 December 2011 –   A TNT Express Boeing 747 freighter transported 75 tons of Atlantic Canadian lobster from Halifax to Brussels on Wednesday 21 December. The holiday treat was then distributed throughout the Netherlands, Germany and France, just in time for last-minute Christmas shopping. TNT Express operates a scheduled service at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport every Saturday. Wednesday’s extra flight was especially arranged to pick up fresh lobster trucked in from Nova Scotia. Lobster from Atlantic Canada accounts for 55 per cent of the worldwide market, according to a report prepared last year for the Lobster Council of Canada. Canadian exporters hope that Europe’s appetite for lobster, a traditional holiday treat, will withstand economic worries.
